The emirate of Abu Dhabi is located in the oil-rich and strategic United Arab Emirates and is an active member of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC). It borders with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (south) and the Sultanate of Oman(east). Abu Dhabi borders the emirate of Dubai to its northeast and is 1.5 hours away driving. Abu Dhabi city is on an island located less than a quarter-kilometer from the mainland and is joined to the mainland by bridges. Most of Abu Dhabi is located on the island itself, but it has many suburbs on the mainland

Although temperatures can reach 45 Celsius in mid August, the average ambient temperature between October and March is in the high 20s to low 30s Celsius - a very pleasant climate. The one weather constant is year round high relative humidity, but this seldom becomes unbearable. However, every building, office and car is air-conditioned, as is the College. Otherwise, Abu-Dhabi’s climate comprises 365-day sunshine and copious amounts of blue sky!
Compared to other major cities around the world, Abu Dhabi has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.. Normal precautions need to be take in circumstances such as carrying a large amount of money. Other than that, Abu Dhabi is a rather safe environment with low crime rates.
The UAE is an Islamic country and Islam plays an important role in the life of its citizens. Other religions are treated with great respect. Abu Dhabi’s cosmopolitan population supports many places of worship from Hindu temples to Protestant and Roman Catholic Churches. The official religion is Islam, but all religions are tolerated.
English is universally understood and is the lingua franca of commerce. All signposts are in English as well as Arabic.
